neapolis ensemble
The Neapolis Ensemble has been re-proposing the traditional Neapolitan musical repertoire. The universal character of these songs and tunes, the major contamination of cultivated and folk elements, combined with the variety of the repertoire, make this band truly unique. It is a fact that the Neapolis is appreciated by critics and the public alike, although it plays in a wide variety of contexts, ranging from cultural centres to opera houses, from ethnic or traditional music festivals to classical or ancient music festivals, in the open air, in churches, with or without amplification. It is this multifaceted identity that makes the Neapolis the popular band for excellence.
From its foundation, the Neapolis Ensemble has played in very prestigious events in more than 15 countries, like the Festival d’Ile-de-de France, the Opera Theatre of Lyon, the Festival de Saint-Chartier, the Festival International de Musique de Besançon, the Opera Theatre of Lilla, the Théâtre de l’Athénée of Paris, the National Theatres of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, La Rochelle, Aubusson, La Roche sur Yon, Quimper and Forbach (France), the Montserrat’s Abbey (Spain), the Kölner Philharmonie, the Radialsystem V in Berlin, the Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci, the Schwetzinger Festspiele (Germany), the Flanders Festival of Bruges (Belgium), the FolkClub in Turin, the Musical Weeks in Merano, the Teatro Al Massimo of Palermo (Italy), the Coliseo Theatre in Buenos Aires (Argentina), the Teatro Oriente in Santiago (Cile), the University Cultural Centre in Mexico City (Mexico), the Ballroom Radisson in Montevideo (Uruguay), the Palaces Festival of Saint-Petersbourg, the Dom Muziki of Moscow (Russia), the Dornbirn Festival, the Brucknerhaus of Linz (Austria), the Muziekgebouw of Amsterdam (the Netherlands), the Eesti Concert Hall of Tallinn (Estonia).
In October 2006 the band published the record, Napoli, an ambitious project about the history of the southern Italy’s capital, represented through 11 pieces that go from 1200 to 1977. The record, that contains the pictures of the fantastic French artist Ernest Pignon, was edited by Calliope and distributed worldwide by Harmonia Mundi. The international press has been positively impressed by this record and it’s a matter of fact that it has scored the highest ranking in the classical music’s chart. In November 2008 the group published its second record, Palummella.
In November 2010 is published the third record 77 - Rhythm and Magic in the Neapolitan
Musical Tradition, edited by AEON and distributed worldwide by Harmonia Mundi.
Neapolis was invited by Radio France, Radio Uno, Klara Radio, Catalunuya Radio and many others.
